Chaos Cave Weekend Trip 9 - 10 November 2024

Our next trip is on November 9th-10th November. We will be going to Chaos - a stunning Cave with lots to see, with a 2 pitch SRT in the cave.

Members only, but you must have done SRT or a training session at least once in the last year.

We'll camp on the farm so please bring camping gear. Note; there's no power, water or toilets.

We'll have a braai at night.

The farm road wasn't too bad last time, but it'll be a good idea to carpool where possible as the roads tend to fill with water when it rains.

You must be proficient in SRT (Single Rope Technique) as this will involve a two-pitch SRT descent in the cave, approximately 45 meters in total. Expect a long day underground. Depending on the number of participants and the availability of gear, we will split into two groups, with each group descending on a different day to ensure everyone has the opportunity to explore the cave.

Please contact the trip leader Edmund if interested.

Halloween Social - Friday Evening - 1 November 2024

Join us for a bone-chilling Halloween sleepover in the depths of a cave, where shadows loom, and echoes turn ghostly. This is a casual gathering—not about exploring but about immersing ourselves in spine-tingling stories by lantern light. Wear your most haunting outfit and come dressed to kill! For those daring enough to stay, feel free to "Rest in Peace" until morning—if you can last the night. πŸŽƒ

It will be near Oaktree, cave TBC

JV13 Caving trip 8 September 2024

 Hi everyone 😁

Our next trip is on Sunday 8th September. We will be going to JV13 - a stunning sinkhole with approximately 60m SRT and a small cave at the bottom.

Visitors are welcome, but you must have done SRT or a training session at least once in the last year.

This trip will focus on the SRT and rigging, so I will be using it as a training opportunity.

There is a short walk to the cave and the farmer will be showing us the other caves on the property which we might visit quickly if we have time.

We'll go to Bushwackers afterwards.

Please contact Kyle if interested.

Rescue Training 6/7 July 2024

Hi everyone! As you know, we have a cave rescue training weekend coming up:

Date: 06/07/2024 - 07/07/2024
Time: 9h00
Venue: Rising Star

We will be doing theory and practical training on the surface in the morning and then we will put it all together in Villa Louisa Cave in the afternoon.

For those who want to, we will be camping at Rising Star and have a braai (Bring your own food and drinks). There are showers and toilets on the property as well as a kitchen and power.

On Sunday morning, we will possibly do a rescue scenario in the cave (Depends on energy levels)

Afterwards, we will finish with a gear wash, inspection and sorting.

Please join the group if you are interested in coming and let me know if you have any questions. Visitors are welcome as observers, and may get involved if there is enough space, but plenty to learn either way!

Sekororo 21 to 24 March 2024

We are planning another trip to Sekororo, an amazing kloof close to Burgersfort, Limpopo.

Although we are not aware of any significant caves in this dolomite-rich area and none were found on our previous visit, we are hopeful to make a new discovery after a local showed us footage of a cave that they found. The local will take us to the cave/s that they know of on one of the days. While we are there, we might as well do an incredible kloof a few times on the other days!

The Sekororo campsite is situated next to an amazing waterfall and pool which is the last leg of the kloof and the river flowing past the camp is clean and safe to drink. Apart from water, there is nothing else in terms of facilities. You have to take your own food, sleeping stuff, caving and kloofing gear etc. There is no reception at camp but a scramble out of the kloof to higher ground puts you back in contact if you need to make a call.

If you are interested, please join the Sekororo 2024 Whatsapp group on the SEC Community.

Please be aware that space is limited and the trip might already be full.

Regards,

Dirk.

Ou-kleintjie Caving Trip 14 January 2024

Good day everyone. For the January caving trip this upcoming Sunday the 14th we will be doing Oukleintjie, were we will be introducing the first annual SEC treasure hunt!
Thanks to AJ for sponsoring the prize (a GoPro), which he hid in the Cave so well that he doesn't even know where it is. Second prize is the torch that Dylan dropped on my face (condition unknown... buried under rocks, the torch not Dylan. Although his fate is also unknown).

The cave is somewhat visitor friendly- involves crawling, a ladder and bouldering. Meeting time and place will be at Oaktree garage at 09:00 on 14th January. Visitor fees are R100 per person.
Please PM me if interested in joining, there are limited spaces.
Regards Edmund.
(Note: I've been advised by my lawyer to say that the treasure hunt prize is purely satirical and that the GoPro belongs to AJ, we still have to find it though)
